Members of Blue Atlantic’s stable were out in force this June (16–18) at the CSI2* Societa’ Ippica Sanremo in Liguria’s coastal commune of San Remo, in Northwest Italy. There, top mares Victoria and Steyburn earned a series of impressive placings in sizeable fields under rider Faleh Suwead Al Ajami of Qatar.
Victoria
On Friday, June 16, Al Ajami and Victoria, the 2009 Westphalian mare by Vleut, galloped to the win in the 1.35m speed round on a time of 64.5 seconds, besting a field of 18. One day later, they also jumped double-clear in the Societa’ Ippica Sanremo 1.40m, taking fourth place in a field of 25 on a jump-off time of 44.12 seconds.
Steyburn
Equally impressive during the Societa’ Ippica Sanremo was Blue Atlantic’s 2008 Swedish Warmblood mare Steyburn, who began the weekend with a win in the CSI2* Societa’ Ippica Sanremo 1.30m class with Al Ajami. The pair jumped double-clear, finishing on a dominant time of 27.88 seconds to top a start list of 20 riders from five different nations.
Two days later, on June 18, they proved the victory was no happy accident, jumping clear again in their second 1.30m two-phase of the week to take second place on a jump-off time of 33.11 seconds. With Al Ajami in the irons, Steyburn has yet to drop a rail all month (in the 135 level), earning similarly high placings—including two wins—at Kronenberg in the Netherlands earlier in June. The pair boasts a 100% top 10 finish average over five rounds at 1.35m, according to Jumpr App.
Previously campaigned by Ireland’s Peter Moloney (IRL), with whom she competed up to the 1.50m level, Steyburn has earned wins and multiple top placings in 1.40m–1.45m classes since she began campaigning at these higher levels in 2016. One of the highlights of Steyburn’s career: competing with Moloney at the Royal Dublin Horse Show CSIO5*, where she finished in the top-10 in the 1.45m–1.50m Speed Championship.
