Victoria & Martin Fuchs Shine in the Longines Cup of the City of Barcelona CSIO
Few international stages are considered more difficult or prestigious than the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cupô Final CSIO5*. Switzerland’s Martin Fuchs and Victoria rose to the occasion, putting in a class round in the show’s last, premier class on Sunday, October 1, 2017, the CSIO5* Longines Cup of the City of Barcelona.
The two-round, Santiago Varela (ESP)-designed track included technical lines and built-to-spec 1.55m fences, with the tests kicking off straight way with an open water fence at jump 5 to a related Massimo Dutti double at jump 6a-b. Of the 41 starters, 10 opted to retire mid-course. Demonstrating poise, confidence, and footspeed across the ground, Fuchs and Victoria completed the course with only a single rail down in the triple combination (11b), finishing on a time of 83.69 seconds.
More impressive still, Victoria—a Westphalian mare (Vleut x Couleur-Rubin) and the granddaughter of the great stallion, Quickstar—was one of only two eight-years old to compete in the Longines FEI Nations Cupô Final. Produced by Fuchs during her 2016–2018 seasons, the pair boasted a 44% clear round average at 1.50m in 2017 and made appearances at world-class CSI5* events, such as the Longines Global Champions Tour Mexico City (MEX) and Longines Global Champions Tour Miami Beach (USA). The mare went on to campaign under Irish rider Peter Moloney at top venues across Europe.
In addition to her finish in the Longines Cup of the City of Barcelona, Victoria routinely demonstrated standout quality, finishing in the top-10 at major international venues including CSI5* St. Moritz, Switzerland and CSI3* Arezzo, Italy.
