David Will & Crispo Top the Podium in the CSI4* 1.40m in Wiesbaden
On a bright and sunny June 5, 2017 in Wiesbaden, Germany’s David Will and Crispo made easy work of the 1.40m two-phase CSI4*class, narrowly beating out countryman Michael Jung and Fischerdaily Impressed on a jump-off time of 32.88 seconds to take the win. Jung finished in second place on 32.96. Samantha McIntosh (NZL) and Estina were third with a time of 33.87.
From start to finish in Round 1, Will and the then-8-year-old Holsteiner gelding by Contendro I put in a class performance, maximizing Crispo’s power and impressive stride across the grass to gracefully navigate the track’s most challenging elements. Those included a triple combination at Jumps 7a-7b-7c, where the pair opted for a short, inside turn on the landing, followed by a loose eight strides from Jumps 8 to 9, with a broad liverpool on the backside.
A bold, confident mentality in the ring is a hallmark of Crispo, who came to Will’s string in July of 2016 after previously competing with Germany’s Nicola Pohl. Together, Will and Crispo collected top finishes in 1.40m National Young Horse classes in Gross Viegeln, Donaueschingen-Immenhöfe, and Kiel, earning an impressive 73% clear round average over 15 rounds at the height (Jumpr App).
After a successful season under Brazil’s João Victor Castro Aguiar Gomes de Lima in 2018 competing up to the 1.50m height, Crispo campaigned briefly under Angela Thompson of Great Britain in 2022, jumping to a sixth place finish in the national level Queen Elizabeth II Cup at the Longines Royal International Horse Show CSIO5* in London.
Described as “a real power house” by young horse selector Teus Van Den Brink (NED), Crispo has certainly lived up to expectations, displaying the strength, style, and technique necessary for success at the highest level of the sport.
